Last weekend we had a blast debuting two new tunes "Down This Road" and "Eye On The Prize" at the Mellow Mushroom's 10th anniversary block party folk style!
This past week I had the pleasure of visiting New Orleans! You can't beat it in so many ways; music, food and the vibrancy. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band was a blast to see and hear despite it being standing room only and hot as hell! With no AC and amplification, it was like stepping back in time. The instrumentation was Piano, Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Tuba and Drum Kit. The tenor sax player, Clint Maedgen, sang "I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire" while cupping his hand over his mouth to project the sound to the audience. Most tunes ended with all three players doing the New Orleans classic improved counterpoint. Later in the week we caught the Treme Brass Band at a cool bar on Frenchman Street, d.b.a.. Slightly gutsier than the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, they got everyone dancing on a work night with a great New Orleans version of "My Bucket's Got Hole In It" and the theme from TREME.
Summer is here and we are psyched to return to the Boro on the 23rd. On the 26th I'll also be playing keys with bud Keith Moody on the Billy Block Show. New recordings and shows are in the works, happy June; Rock and Rollz!
